Emma’s Bites – Toad in the hole

I apologise for the lateness of today’s blog but I haven’t fell well at all today.
Anyway, your not here to know about my and my stupid illness. You are here for another delicious meal!
This week is toad in the hole.
Simple. Effective and bloody amazing 😉
I love sausages and the boys love Yorkshire Puddings so it’s a win win. 🥰
So, I don’t know about you but firstly I prefer to pre grill my sausage. I prefer them really crispy. 😋 Either grill or frying pan it’s up to you.

The best batter we have found is from BBC food website. I don’t know if you have looked but they have some amazing recipes on their site 😍.
So the recipe is as follows;
140g plain flour
4 eggs
200ml milk

Get a big tray to cook your Yorkshire in. (See my picture further on for reference). Stick some oil in to cover and pop in a hot hot oven for ten mins.
Then grab a bowl and pop the flour in, add 4 beaten eggs and beat until smooth. Add the milk bit by bit. Keep beating / whisking so that it eventually ends up smooth. Place the mixture into a jug ready to pour into the tray.
When the sausages are partly cooked, pop them in your tray and out the batter around them.
Stuck the tray in the oven. Should take around 25 minutes to cook. Remember, whatever you do DO NOT open the oven door.

When it’s nearly ready go get your vegetables ready. It’s a filling dish so I just do two lots of vegetables with it and I always do it in the microwave for ease. Also it tastes much better. Carrots 🥕 , stick them in a dish add a little bit of water an cover with cling film. Microwave for 2/3 minutes. Do the same with broccoli 🥦.

Sort yourself some gravy out, personally we prefer bistro gravy.
The only thing left to do is to serve.

Let me know if you try it and enjoy it.
